MAJ Matthew A. Piazza

Matt was born to Philip and Darlene Piazza and raised in Tully, New York alongside his brother Michael Piazza. From a young age his love for GI joes and the Army was apparent.

The Army took him on many adventures during the course of 11 years including: 3rd Infantry Fort Stewart, GA, Logistics Captain Career Course Fort Lee, VA, 4th Infantry and 10th Special Forces Fort Carson, CO, Army Recruiting Command Syracuse, NY, 25th Infantry Schofield Barracks, HI. This also included deployments to Afghanistan and Europe. Awards received: Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon

He always strived for the best results while in the Army and stories from his fellow officers and NCO’s we will hear about forever. He might not have always done it by the book, but the Matt Piazza way got the job done.

Known by most as Matty. P. He was passionate about many things, his family, his country, the Joe Rogan podcast, and Chris Stapleton Pandora station. and the way he tied his army boots. The list could go on and on but the unconditional love he had for Megan and their boys, Bode and Lyle, shined through his smile on a daily basis.

Matt was an athlete from his early years of ski racing through playing lacrosse at VMI and most recently became an avid golfer. He had a bucket list of all the golf courses he was determined to play on Oahu and was making his way through the list. He always loved skiing and made several trips each year to the slopes.

Anyone that knew Matt would expect nothing short of Red, White, and Blue with patriotic songs playing in the background. Matt was a true American Soldier, he wore his uniform proudly and he loved defending the good ‘ole USA.

His passing leaves a large hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his stories and sense of humor; it was infectious. He lived life to the fullest and brought the life to any party. He was beloved by everyone who met him; he was a fantastic father to his sons Bode and Lyle, a great husband to his wife Megan, and a best friend to many from all walks of life. No matter the circumstance, everyone who had the opportunity to spend time with him would leave with a story of something funny/crazy that Matty P. did.

Things will never be the same – but the world is better for the years my matt lived with us.

Forever in our memories the legacy of kindness, love and generosity is how we will live in his honor.

Forever our hero. Forever our Matty P. ❤️
