MAJ David Osborne

Dave, born in Akron, Ohio, City Hospital on May 31, 1974, was 1 of 4 children having an older sister Celeste and younger siblings Mandy and Brian.  His Dad is Dave Osborne and step-mother Katie.  His mother is Kathie Cooper and step-father Bill.  Dave attended Catholic grade school and his religion was a very important part of his being.  Dave graduated from Massillon Jackson HS in 1992 while lettering in wrestling and football.  He was a member of the NHS.  He attended Tulane University on a ROTC scholarship majoring in cell and molecular biology.  He served in Germany and South Korea his first 5 1/2 years.  From 1996-2001 Dave received extensive training in chemical and biological warfare.  After the September 11 attacks he was asked to return to active duty for a six-month period to develop a plan for the defense of the Pentagon. He was called for Bosnia and then Operation Iraqi Freedom as a unit commander of the 431st chemical detachment as support for the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in the Persian Gulf.  Part of his mission was to operate a nuclear, biological, and chemical warning and reporting system.  From 2001 Dave was in the Reserve National Guard while not on active duty.  In 2011 Dave was called up again to go to Jalalabad, Afghanistan, where he was part of the Bin Laden command center.  He returned from Afghanistan and was asked to remain on active and work at the United States Cyber Command stationed at Fort Meade, MD.  Dave married Erin Barnhart (who he met while both were in South Korea) who served as an US Army Captain in Mosul, Iraq, and then also as an FBI agent.  While in the reserves Dave worked at ANSER, in Arlington, VA which is a firm specializing in homeland security.  They had 3 children, Alice born in 2007, Tim in 2009, and Patrick in 2012.  Dave was diagnosed in early 2012 with a rare but virulent strain of squamous cell cancer.  He underwent chemo therapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries.  On Friday, November 15, 2013, he passed.  Dave is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.  Erin and the 3 kids live in Potomac, MD.
